The leaf print photo frames, the asymmetrical flower vases and fake winery with fairy lights. It’s cool but you can do better! With a little bit of x and y, we’ll look at why your home/ apartment lacks personality and how to add more of it!
The best, easiest and most affordable ways to add personality to your home or apartment without breaking your bank is by adding some warmth to your home through color, unique pieces passed down from your family and changing the lighting of your apartment to give off a cozier vibe.

There’s no Warmth in your Home
Grey walls, matching grey couch and curtains. Too many cool tones and little to no warm tones makes your home look lifeless.
The best way to add color to your home is by incorporating wood. Since it has warm tones and I’m sure you’ll never regret buying a cabinet, it is the best way to add some warmth.
Pops of color from your furniture, artwork, curtains, table cloths, plants, vases, etc. instantly add personality to your home or apartment
Set the Right Mood
Lighting is a big part of your home and is something that instantly adds personality to your apartment. It shines through especially when you have friends over.
Putting can lights behind your furniture or plants will help you get that cozy, personable vibe you want at a house party. Or in your bedroom to make it the perfect reading spot. Or by your fake fireplace. Or underneath your dining table.
Either way, can lights -a 10/10 recommendation to make your home more personable & cozy. Just click on the link to see how cool they look underneath a table!! Plus they’re affordable.
You have Mass Produced Art and Decor Pieces
There’s no problem with having mass produced art and decor but if it’s the only thing you have in your home, it’ll start to look like a Target commercial and personality-less.
This vase for example. We all know exactly when it started trending and how quickly it got replaced.
Easiest way to add some personality to your home or apartment is by putting up art or decor your grandma gave you, something you thrifted or picked up while travelling.
You could literally paint something or have your kid/ pet(?) do it. Still more interesting than the leaf print. Just saying.
Essentially, incorporate art & decor that has a story behind it. This immediately makes your home more personable.
Too Many Fake Plants from Amazon
Just get succulents from your local nursery. Fresh flowers from a nearby farmer’s market on the weekends. Anything but the fake plants. It almost looks cartoonish.
Real plants add so much personality to your apartment and makes it more inviting. Can’t get yourself to water plants? Get these self watering globes from amazon to water your plants.
These little mushroom guys are super useful when you’re out of town or just forget to water your plants as they automatically water your plants for 1-2 weeks.
You are a Certified Ikea/ CB2 Purchaser
Ain’t nothing wrong with that. But, you know, you shouldn’t be surprised that your home looks like an ikea commercial.
To add personality to your apartment you just need to get furniture from a local thrift store or even facebook marketplace for that matter.
You’ll have unique pieces that make your home feel special and cozy. These unique, even vintage pieces make your home look a lot more expensive than it is.
Copy + Paste is your Passion
We’ve all been there, done that. It’s hard not to, when we are exposed to so many interior designers, celebrity house tours and what not.
You ride trend wave too quick and it all comes crashing down when people have found something cooler.
Best way to make sure the furniture & decor pieces in your home/ apartment stands the test of time, is to NOT follow trends.
Like I mentioned previously, find pieces that have a story, something that’s a hand-me-down from your great aunt or grandfather, rocks you picked up from an insane hike you went on in Hawaii as display or something like that.
But what if I find a trend I really like? Well, you can still hop on it but find a slight variation of it so that you stand out regardless.
For example, let’s say you really liked this circular white ceramic vase that’s been all over pinterest, you could opt for this face-vase instead. You’re still on trend, but not like the other girls though 😉
You Don’t have Enough Books on Display
I’m sure you’ve read something, right? Display a couple of those books on your shelf. No, not the coffee table book that’s currently trending.
These were some of (my) reasons why your home/ apartment lacks personality and how to add some of it! What’d you think? Let me know!
